Born This Way – drugi album studyjny amerykańskiej piosenkarki Lady Gagi, który swoją oficjalną premierę miał 23 maja 2011 roku. Pierwszym singlem wydawnictwa jest tytułowy utwór. Podczas odbierania nagrody w kategorii "Teledysk Roku" na MTV Video Music Award[1][2] artystka zdradziła tytuł albumu, a oficjalną datę premiery potwierdziła na swoim profilu na Twitterze o północy, z 31 grudnia 2010 na 1 stycznia 2011 roku[3].

Krytyka

Album przez krytyków uznany został za jeden z bardziej oczekiwanych wydawnictw ostatnich miesięcy. Recenzent Guardiana zwraca uwagę na rockowe aspiracje Lady Gagi i docenia je. Choć ogólny odbiór albumu jest dobry, to jednak wielu krytyków zwraca uwagę na takie aspekty jak: prostota i toporność tekstów czy nadmierne inspirowanie się Madonną, szczególnie w tytułowej piosence, czy Bruce’em Springsteen’em. Wielu zauważa, że Gaga czerpiąc z muzycznej spuścizny lat osiemdziesiątych niewiele dokłada od siebie. Większość krytyków jednoznacznie stwierdza, że nie zgadza się z zapowiedziami samej artystki o „albumie dekady” w kontekście "Born This Way"[5]. Dziennik NME dał albumowi 8 punktów na 10 podkreślając triumf w inżynierii dźwięku albumu.

Kontrowersje

Po wrzawie medialnej, która wybuchła po premierze tytułowego singla, dotyczącej nadmiernego podobieństwa tejże piosenki do singla Madonny "Express Yourself" Lady Gaga w programie „Tonight Show with Jay Leno” oznajmiła: „otrzymałam e-mail od jej (przyp.: Madonny) ludzi, i ona przesyła mi masę miłości i całkowite wsparcie w sprawie singla”[6], jednak rzeczniczka Madonny zaprzeczyła tym informacjom[7].

Ciekawostki

  • 26 listopada 2010 podczas koncertu w ramach The Monster Ball Tour w Gdańsku, Gaga wyjawiła, że album może mieć 20 piosenek i może być "albumem dekady". Dodała także, że jest już całkowicie skończony[8].
  • Producent znanej amerykańskiej gry internetowej FarmVille - firma Zynga, ogłosił, że od 17 maja 2011 dostępna będzie wersja gry poświęcona Lady Gadze - GaGaVille. Umożliwiono w niej odblokowywanie poszczególnych utworów z płyty Born This Way. 17 maja odblokowano pierwszą piosenkę - "Marry The Night", a następnie kolejne dwie: "Electric Chapel" oraz "Fashion Of His Love".
Lady Gaga wykonująca utwór "Born This Way" w ramach trasy koncertowej "The Monster Ball Tour" lutego 2011 roku w Atlantic City.
